Bumblebee Charts

I did this bumblebee chart both in black and white for filet crochet and also in color for crocheting colors in or for cross stitch. One more version: a black and white chart with symbols for the colors, for those who don't have color printers. The chart is adaptable for needlepoint, knitting, beadwork, plastic canvas, even quilt blocks.

To work the chart above in a 4 dc mesh, starting chain is 97 (includes the chain-3 which counts as the first double crochet of first row). The chart is worked by starting on the bottom right. Work first row right to left. Work next row left to right. Continue alternating row direction in this manner as you work your way up the chart.

The background of the chart above is intended to be a random pattern of blues so you can arrange the various shades of blue any way that strikes your fancy. When working the chart in crochet, you could either crochet the colors in or you could cross stitch the design on a crocheted background.

To make a background in single crochet, chain 32. Single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook, single crochet in each chain across. (31 sc)
Rows 2 - 31: Chain 1 to turn at the end of each row. Single crochet in each stitch.

To make a background in crocheted afghan stitch, chain 31.
Work in afghan stitch for 31 rows.

Follow the chart to cross stitch the design on in yarn colors or with multiple strands of embroidery floss, with a large-eye yarn needle.

You could make this into a pillow, the front of a tote bag, the center of an afghan or many other items.

You can use a variety of thread sizes or yarn weights to make this design from the above charts. Just to give you an idea of finished sizes, when the chart is done in filet crochet, with size 10 thread and a US size 7 steel crochet hook, the finished size will be about 7 inches x 7 1/2 inches.

When the bumblebee chart is done in filet crochet, with worsted weight yarn and a US size I crochet hook, the finished size will be about 27 1/2 inches x 28 1/2 inches.
